Kolkata, formerly known as Calcutta, is situated on the banks of the River Hooghly. Its literary, artistic and revolutionary heritage has caused Kolkata to be widely seen as India’s cultural capital. It is also referred to as the City of Joy, or the City of Processions.

India’s second largest city, with a population of over 13 million, is noted for its revolutionary history, from the pre-independence era to the present. Kolkata is the home to many of India’s most famous people: Rabindranath Tagore, Satyajit Ray and Mother Teresa, to name a few.

Come appreciate Kolkata—in Unbelievable India.
