620 km southeast of Delhi, in the state of Madhya Pradesh is the city of Khajuraho. It is world renowned for its temples which were built in the years 950 to 1050 AD by the Chandela Rajputs, a Hindu dynasty. There were originally over 80 Hindu temples, now only about 22 remain in satisfactory condition. The temples of Khajuraho are famous for their erotic sculptures interlaced with religion. The name Khajuraho is derived from the Hindi word Khajur, which means date palm.
